Swanson to Compete for Florida State Championship

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (February 17, 2014) – Warsaw, Ind. driver and two-time defending Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series (HOSS) champion Joe Swanson confirmed today that he will compete in the March 1 "Florida State Championship" Winged Sprint Car event. The two-day 75-lap event will be contested at Showtime Speedway in Pinellas Park, Fla.

Swanson is no stranger to winged sprint car competition. He has been on a tear of sorts the past two seasons. Swanson has won the HOSS championship the last two seasons as well as finishing second in the 2013 Auto Value Super Sprints championship. Swanson will be one of a handful of northern drivers who will be battling the southern drivers during this historic first annual event. Northern drivers: Davey Hamilton, Todd Fayard, and Aaron Pierce are also expected to participate.

This 75-lap event will feature a unique two-day format with qualifying and qualifying races slated for Friday night February 28. The following evening will cap off the weekend with a 75-lap event. In addition, it will feature 360 c.i. and 410 c.i. engines competing in the same event. This will be one of the few pavement sprint car events of its kind in the entire country, given the fact that different engine sizes have been integrated. Speedway officials will be working with a rules package that will make the two engine sizes compatible and allow for a level playing field for this non-sanctioned event.

Showtime Speedway promoter Robert Yoho would like nothing more than to see this mid-winter race become an annual staple on the Showtime Speedway calendar. Yoho has put up a huge purse for this event that will offer $5,000 to win. When the event was originally announced, it offered $3,500 to win. The purse increase is proof of how successful Yoho wants this event to ultimately be.

The new purse for this event is as follows: 1. $5000 2. $2000 3. $1250 4.$1000 5.$900 6.$800 7.$700 8.$650 9.$600 10.$550 11.$500 12.$450 13.$400 14.$350 15$300 THUR FIELD.
