Warsaw, Ind. driver and two-time
defending Hoosier Outlaw Sprint
Series (HOSS) champion Joe
Swanson confirmed today that he
will compete in the March 1
"Florida State Championship"
Winged Sprint Car event. The
two-day 75-lap event will be
contested at Showtime Speedway
in Pinellas Park, Fla.
Swanson is no stranger to winged sprint car
competition. He has been on a tear of sorts the
past two seasons. Swanson has won the HOSS
championship the last two seasons as well as
finishing second in the 2013 Auto Value Super
Sprints championship. Swanson will be one of a
handful of northern drivers who will be battling
the southern drivers during this historic first
annual event. Northern drivers: Davey Hamilton,
Todd Fayard, and Aaron Pierce are also expected
This 75-lap event will feature a unique two-day
format with qualifying and qualifying races
slated for Friday night February 28. The
following evening will cap off the weekend with
a 75-lap event. In addition, it will feature 360
c.i. and 410 c.i. engines competing in the same
event. This will be one of the few pavement
sprint car events of its kind in the entire
country, given the fact that different engine
sizes have been integrated. Speedway officials
will be working with a rules package that will
make the two engine sizes compatible and allow
for a level playing field for this
Showtime Speedway promoter Robert Yoho would
like nothing more than to see this mid-winter
race become an annual staple on the Showtime
Speedway calendar. Yoho has put up a huge purse
for this event that will offer $5,000 to win.
When the event was originally announced, it
offered $3,500 to win. The purse increase is
proof of how successful Yoho wants this event to
