Marne, MI (9/1) Jeff Bloom stretched out his season-long driver point
lead to 15 in the Auto Value Bumper to Bumper Super Sprint series after
scoring the 30 lap feature win Saturday night at Berlin Raceway. Bloom
trails the TNT Promotions car driven by Jason Blonde by 16 in the owner
points.
First-time AVBBSS runner Brian Gerster set fast time of the night
at 13.053 miles per hour, and rolled an 8 for the inversion of the
feature. Bloom started 5th in the main event, took the lead on lap 3,
and set sail from there. Jeff started lapping cars on lap 7, and had
built up a half-lap lead when a lapped car held him up for about 5
laps, allowing Curt Shumaker and Jason Blonde to close in. Curt took
over the lead for a couple of laps while Jeff and Jason split the
lapped car. By this time, the leaders had come upon a pack of 8-10 cars
that were battling for position, and this made for one of the best
races of the season. Jeff shot by Curt with 2 laps to go, and pulled
away to a 4 car length lead over Shumaker, Blonde, Dave Baumgardner,
Mike Ling, Gerster, Ryan Litt, Chad Goff, Troy Underwood and Tyler
Underwood.
The Dowker Engines first heat went to Scott O’Connor, followed by
Aaron Katz, Gerster, Tyler Underwood and Bloom. The Logo Boys second
heat went to Ike Beasley ahead of Brian Lay, Troy Underwood, Goff and
Ling. The United Trailers third head was taken by Jimmy McCune, who was
chased by Shumaker, Blonde, Bill Jacoby and Litt..
Bloom leads the points with 1107, followed by Blonde 1092, Goff
1023, Ling 989, McCune 964, Troy Underwood 943, Katz 911, Beasley 826,
Bill Tyler 823 and John Hotchkiss 804.
The Auto Value Bumper to Bumper Super Sprints will take their
traveling show to Dixie Speedway in Birch Run, MI on Friday, Sept. 14,
and the final show of the year they will return to Berlin Raceway on
Saturday, Sept. 29.
